Cynthia Tysick

Cynthia Tysick is a Fulbright Scholar, librarian, and thoughtful educator who brings human-centered approaches to technology in education. As Innovative Pedagogy Librarian and Adjunct Instructor at the University at Buffalo, she brings over 25 years of academic experience to one of today’s most urgent questions: how do we prepare educators to use AI wisely, ethically, and effectively?

Cynthia teaches Digital Identity and Humane Technology and AI in Health and Human Services. She has carried her expertise across continents, training teachers and librarians in Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, and Nigeria. She is the author of The Digital Literacy Workbook, rooted in the Nigerian Digital Literacy Framework, and the Routledge monograph Digital Identity in the Age of Big Tech.

Having witnessed both the promise and the pitfalls of educational technology firsthand, Cynthia brings a cautionary perspective. She calls on educators and policymakers to critically examine AI’s effects on the cognitive development of children through young adults, and to consider whether a recalibration toward foundational practices in reading, writing, and oratory debate may not just be worthwhile, but necessary.
