This is a replay of a workshop that took place in the ITU on the 5th of July, during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has tremendous potential to transform the way healthcare is delivered and improve health outcomes for people around the world. However, the development and deployment of AI in healthcare also presents significant ethical and social challenges. The Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (FG-AI4H) is organizing a workshop at the AI for Good Global Summit to address these challenges and identify strategies for harnessing the full potential of AI in healthcare.

The workshop will bring together experts from the fields of AI, healthcare, ethics, and policy to explore the ethical, social, and legal implications of AI in healthcare. The workshop will focus on three key themes:

    • Ethical and social implications of AI in healthcare: This theme will explore the ethical and social challenges of using AI in healthcare, such as bias, transparency, and accountability. Participants will discuss strategies for ensuring that AI is developed and deployed in a way that is ethical, equitable, and socially responsible.
    • Legal and regulatory considerations: This theme will explore the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern the development and deployment of AI in healthcare. Participants will discuss the need for clear and consistent regulations that promote innovation while protecting patients’ rights and privacy.
    • Real-world applications of AI in healthcare: This theme will focus on the practical applications of AI in healthcare, such as diagnostics, treatment planning, and precision medicine. Participants will discuss the challenges and opportunities of using AI in these contexts and identify strategies for scaling up AI solutions in a sustainable and equitable manner.

The workshop will include presentations from experts in the field, panel discussions, and breakout sessions for more focused discussions on specific topics.

By bringing together experts from different fields and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, this workshop aims to promote a more holistic and inclusive approach to the development and deployment of AI in healthcare, one that puts patients’ needs and rights at the forefront.
