Andrew Welchman

Andrew is Exec Vice President for Impact at ieso. He forges strategic alliances with like-minded organisations to collaborate on ground-breaking research that will accelerate responsible innovation and adoption of breakthrough discoveries in mental healthcare.  

 Prior to joining ieso in 2021, Andrew was Head of Neuroscience and Mental Health at the Wellcome Trust where he led strategic initiatives for a £500m portfolio in cutting-edge brain science, and developed the multi-million-pound initiative in mental health science that is central to Wellcome’s ambitions for the next two decades. He was also Professor of Neural Intelligence at the University of Cambridge, where he led a team that combined advanced human brain imaging and AI to uncover how we perceive, act and understand the world around us.  

 A Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Andrew has worked closely with several Royal Medical Colleges (Royal College of Psychiatry; Royal College of Ophthalmology) and has been an advisor for large-scale international research efforts, collaborative partnerships, and charitable bodies, including India Alliance, The World Economic Forum and BBC Children in Need.
