If you have experimented with ChatGPT, it would be surprising if you hadn‘t been awed by some of its feats (while also noticing some of its deficiencies). The abstract below was the output of ChatGPT after a couple of prompts:

“Revolutionize Your Classroom with ChatGPT: teachers and students report! Join us for a dynamic webinar where we explore the pros and cons of this cutting-edge language model. From improved engagement to increased efficiency, you’ll hear first-hand accounts from teachers and students who have transformed their classrooms with ChatGPT. But we won’t sugarcoat it, we’ll also touch on the potential downsides, such as issues with accuracy and privacy. Get ready to learn about the tools and resources available to bring this technology into your own classroom, weighing the pros and cons, so you can make an informed decision. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to take your education to the next level!” When asked how to grade its abstract, ChatGPT answered: ”I would grade this abstract as a B+”, and gave some reasoning.

Cheating and wrong answers are the immediate fears, but there is also existential anxiety: what will be the role of the teacher in the future? And what does a student need to learn? ChatGPT creates syllabi, lectures, and assignments; it grades assignments, writes opinion pieces, and it codes pretty well – all not perfect, but that is just the start. As the future can’t be that students exclusively use ChatGPT to write exams and teachers use only AI systems to grade those exams, what then is the future of ChatGPT et al. in the classroom?

This live event includes a 30-minute networking event hosted on the AI for Good Neural Network. This is your opportunity to ask questions, interact with the panelists and participants and build connections with the AI for Good community.
