As digital technologies increasingly transform global food systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as powerful enabler of productivity, transparency, resilience, and sustainability across the agri-food value chain. From precision agriculture and climate-smart farming to supply-chain optimization, traceability, and food security, these technologies offer new opportunities to strengthen food security and farmer livelihoods, while also raising important questions around Policy, standards, interoperability, data sharing, and trust.
This workshop will explore how AI-driven analytics can support end-to-end digital food systems, enabling trusted data flows, verifiable transactions, and greater transparency from farm to fork.
The session will also highlight the Global Initiative on AI for Food Systems, a multi-stakeholder platform bringing together governments, UN agencies, industry, academia, and civil society to accelerate the responsible adoption of AI across food systems. The Initiative promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, including policy, Policy, and technical guidance, to ensure that AI and complementary technologies are used in ways that are ethical and trustworthy.
Through expert insights and real-world examples, the workshop aims to identify key priorities for leveraging AI and other emerging technologies like blockchain, to build resilient, transparent, and sustainable digital food systems worldwide.
