AI systems are increasingly being used across a growing range of sectors, and the creative industries are no exception. Yet the integration of AI in this field remains uneven, with different branches adopting these technologies at different speeds and in different ways. At the same time, the process is often fragmented, and there is still limited research addressing key questions such as which AI systems are the most cost-effective, where AI can generate the greatest value, and what the main benefits and risks of adoption are. This session will explore the role of AI in the creative industries and examine whether it is emerging as a market segment in its own right or remains primarily a tool for broader sectoral development. It will look at the economic impact of AI adoption in the creative industries, identify the most relevant AI solutions for the sector, and highlight good practices from current applications. It will also address the main barriers to adoption, as well as the regulatory frameworks that are shaping the use of AI in creative contexts.
