AI/ML solutions for Climate Change

Climate change is one of the biggest environmental challenges affecting the planet and humanity. The consequences of climate change are resulting in broad and deep social and economic consequences, impacting the lives and livelihoods of billions of people. The United Nations (UN) are playing a leading role in the global effort to fight and address climate change through a range of activities, initiatives and programs.

The combination of ICTs and AI technologies offer a promising approach to tackle the climate crisis by reducing emissions, increasing resource use efficiency, and building resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The winners will be announced at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 30 November – 12 December 2023 in the context of the Green Digital Action track.

How to participate

Participants have the opportunity to take part in the innovation factory [startup pitching sessions] and/or the Competition

Innovation Factory

(start-up pitching sessions)

The Innovation Factory is a pitching platform for startups. The solutions and ideas must show how AI can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

There are three steps, with increasing difficulty, to reach the Finale:

Step #1: Fill out an application form and submit a slide deck – the best teams will advance to Step #2

Step #2: Give a 5 min presentation live in the AI for Good Innovation Factory to a worldwide audience – judges will ask questions and evaluate the best teams.

Step #3: The winner(s) will be able to present their solutions at COP28. (travel costs may be covered)

Deadline: 30 September 2023

Challenge

(open to all)

The Challenge connects participants (students and professionals) from around the world, with industry and academia solving real-world problems using AI/ML in communication networks.

The following are steps to participate in the challenge

Step #1: Register and create a team to compete
Step #2: Access the dataset, develop your ML solutions and submit for evaluation
Step #3: Top-20 teams will be invited to submit their code, report
Step #4: Top-10 teams to present during a webinar their solutions
Step #5: The winner will be able to present their solutions at COP28. (travel costs to be covered)

Deadline: Registration closes on 30 September 2023
