Jorge Caballero

Jorge is a Peruvian biologist with expertise in remote sensing and a master’s degree in Sustainability. His research focuses on using remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assess the ecological impacts of environmental crimes in the Peruvian Amazon. 

Currently, Jorge works as a remote sensing specialist for the Illicit Crop Monitoring Program (ICMP) at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Peru. He monitors illicit crops and other illegal activities that cause deforestation, analyzing medium- and high-resolution satellite imagery and drone data. He employs spatial modeling techniques to map deforestation caused by illicit activities and pilots UAVs to survey and gain detailed insights into the drivers of deforestation.
