IBSA

TEAM IBSA is a dynamic and diverse group of 8 young innovators aged 8 to 14, studying at IBSA School and proudly representing Burkina Faso on the international stage. Bringing together multiple nationalities, the team members share a common vision: using robotics and technology to address real-world agricultural challenges and contribute to a better future for their communities.
Guided by a strong STEAM education and a deep commitment to innovation, TEAM IBSA has channeled their skills into designing a smart robotic solution directly inspired by the realities of agriculture in Africa. Their robot is built to automate the collection, transport, and deposit of blocks — simulating essential farming tasks such as sorting harvests, handling produce, or managing resources in the field.
The robot features a precise mechanical gripper system for stable grasping and handling, integrated sensors for obstacle detection and autonomous navigation, a motorized mobility system for smooth and controlled movement, and a programmable electronic controller managing all operations in real time.
What makes their solution truly innovative is its modular and adaptable design: each component — gripper, sensors, wheels — can be easily modified to suit different agricultural environments and crop-handling needs. Its intelligent navigation system identifies targets and plans the most efficient path, reducing errors and increasing productivity.
In the context of the ITU Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, TEAM IBSA’s project embodies the spirit of smart agriculture: leveraging technology to reduce manual labor, improve precision, and support food security — challenges that are especially critical across the African continent and the developing world.
