AI is rapidly becoming a foundational capability for institutions across the United Nations system. From humanitarian response and climate modelling to development programming and digital public infrastructure, AI is reshaping how organizations generate insight, deliver services, and scale impact globally. While global discussions around AI Policy and policy continue to evolve, UN agencies face a parallel and urgent challenge: how to operationalize AI within complex institutional environments. This transformation requires: AI-ready data ecosystems, modern digital platforms and infrastructure, trusted Policy frameworks, new talent and capabilities, and stronger collaboration across organizations. Chief Information Officers and digital leaders across the UN system therefore play a critical role in enabling this transition. Beyond technology modernization, CIOs are responsible for building AI-ready institutions capable of leveraging data and digital technologies to advance the UN’s missions. At the same time, the UN system is advancing important initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration across agencies, including the UN80 agenda, notably the work on the Technology Accelerator Platform (TAP) and opportunities for ICT collaboration and consolidation under Work Package 15 (WP15). Against this backdrop, the AI for Good Global Summit provides a unique opportunity to convene the UN system’s technology leadership community to discuss the operational AI agenda of the United Nations and explore how these initiatives can accelerate the adoption of AI capabilities across the system.
