Melissa Permezel

Melissa is a human geographer urban specialist with over fifteen years of combined partnership, research, and development experience. She heads up the innovation unit at UN-Habitat and has previously worked on land governance, urban planning, slum upgrading, urban legislation, policy and tool development, project management, country level and stakeholder engagement in the organization so has a strong overview of sustainable urbanization issues.  She has worked at the country level and in intermediary cities and with a range of stakeholders from ministers to local chiefs.  

At the innovation unit, she is leading an agenda to approach innovation in a holistic manner, incorporating both digital and non-digital innovations, and in strengthening the capacity of UN-Habitat and partners to use innovation as a tool for fostering sustainable urban development.
