Martin Houghton-Brown

Martin Houghton-Brown is a senior leader in the non-profit sector, dedicated to youth empowerment and community development. As Secretary General of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, he leads a global network of 130 operators, supporting over a million young people annually.

Previously, Martin was Chief Executive of St John Ambulance, where he played a critical role in youth programme expansion, the NHS Cadet scheme, and COVID-19 response efforts—earning recognition as an Officer of the Order of St John. His earlier leadership at Depaul UK and Missing People transformed services for vulnerable youth, including launching a national helpline for missing children.

A former teacher with postgraduate studies in leadership, Martin has served in voluntary leadership roles with the YMCA, receiving the Order of the Red Triangle in Gold. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science in 2022 for his contributions to education and healthcare.
