Martin Bailey

Martin was educated in England, Germany and the Netherlands. He began his career as a lawyer for an international law firm in London, where he specialised in anti-trust, regulation and intellectual property, before joining the European Commission. As well as a stint at the Court of Justice of the European Union, his career at the Commission has spanned a wide range of areas including the single market, anti-trust, technology and economic regulation, environment and sustainability, and the legal aspects of international agreements. For the last year, Martin has been working on the AI-based technologies for cities, and the Administrative Arrangement with the US on AI for public good. He has been a visiting Professor since 2018 at the College of Europe, Bruges, where he taught EU digital law and policy. As well as his native English, Martin is fluent in French and German, with a solid command of Spanish.
