H.E. Mr. Serge Wilmes

Serge Wilmes, born on 6 May 1982 in Luxembourg, is a leading political figure in Luxembourg and leading political advocate of climate and environmental action in the international area.

Education and qualifications
After obtaining a first degree in history from the University of Nancy II, Serge Wilmes obtained a master’s degree in contemporary European history from the University of Luxembourg in 2006.

Governmental mandates
Following the legislative elections of 8 October 2023, Serge Wilmes was appointed Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity and Minister for the Civil Service
on 17 November 2023 in the coalition government between the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) and the Democratic
Party (DP).

Other political posts
Serge Wilmes is a Luxembourgish politician affiliated with the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV). From 2011 to 2023, he was member of parliament for the CSV in Luxembourg’s Chambre des Députés. From 2008 to 2011, Serge Wilmes

was parliamentary advisor to the CSV. After being elected president of the Christian Social Youth (CSJ) in 2008, Serge Wilmes became president of the CSV Luxembourg City in 2016. From 2017 to 2023, he was first alderman of the City of Luxembourg, in charge of urban development, public spaces, architecture, green spaces/forests and environment and climate.
