Costanza Bonadonna

Costanza Bonadonna is Full Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva and Head of the CERG-C Program for the Assessment and Management of Geological and Climate-Related Risks. She currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva and President of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI).

She obtained her BSc in Geology from the University of Pisa and her PhD from the University of Bristol. Prior to joining the University of Geneva, she held research and academic positions at the University of Hawaii and the University of South Florida.

Her research focuses on explosive volcanism and volcanic risk, combining field observations, experiments, and numerical modelling to better understand eruption processes and improve hazard assessment and ash dispersal forecasting. Her work aims to develop innovative and inclusive approaches to risk assessment and mitigation, contributing to more effective disaster preparedness and resilience. She has received several international distinctions for her scientific contributions, including awards from IAVCEI, the Geological Society of London, and the Geological Society of America.
