AI is rewriting how the world hires. This session asks the question most “future of work” conversations skip: who gets harmed, and who pays?

Behind the promise of faster, smarter hiring sits a quieter reality. Fake job offers have become one of the most common ways trafficking networks recruit their victims, and automated hiring systems filter out women, older workers, and Indigenous candidates at scale. The efficiency is celebrated. The harm stays invisible.

This talk makes an uncomfortable case: we cannot build the future of work without first securing it. Protecting vulnerable workers and correcting biased hiring are not obstacles to efficient labor markets; they are the conditions for trusting them. Drawing on real deployment across Latin America, the session shows what securing work looks like in practice, and why solutions built in the Global South matter for everyone.

Attendees leave with practical direction: policymakers writing AI employment rules, technologists building hiring systems, and business leaders auditing the ones they already use. The goal is concrete, to ensure AI turns work into opportunity instead of exploitation. A view from the front lines, where most of the world actually works.
