Competition for AI leadership is increasingly being led and shaped at the level of cities, rather than countries. In this lunchtime session, The Observer will reveal its inaugural AI Cities Index: a first-of-its-kind benchmark comparing urban centres – from the established hubs like San Francisco and Beijing, to the emerging powerhouses – across AI innovation, implementation and investment.

The Observer’s Tech Editor, Patricia Clarke, will be in conversation with Researcher, Hannah Schuller and Research Director, Jeremy Kingsley, to examine what the data tells us about the forces driving AI leadership – from talent and infrastructure to research, investment and commercial ecosystems – and to identify the emerging hubs shaping the global AI landscape.

The Observer also publishes the Global AI Index annually, now in it’s fifth year and widely regarded as one of the leading benchmarks of national AI capacity and competitiveness.
