This talk will focus on various emerging themes and ideas in AI ethics, including the aforementioned ‘sociopathic intelligence’, ethical debt, and a-ethical AI. Ethical debt refers to the accumulated cost of neglecting ethical considerations in the development of AI systems; a-ethical AI refers to an AI system that operates without a moral or ethical framework, moving away from the term of ‘unethical AI’ but posing a question of how the anthropomorphism of AI has led us to attribute traits of morality to a machine that has no understanding of it. Combining these terms and viewpoints presents a novel perspective on how our current lack of ethical considerations in the development and deployment of AI is leading to societal issues such as AI anthropomorphism, which can only be resolved from appropriate considerations of ethics to not only solve these issues in the short-term but also prevent them from worsening.
