Wildlife cameras, also known as camera traps, have become a crucial tool in the study of wildlife populations and their impact on conservation outcomes. They are used to assess species richness, population trends, and monitor biodiversity in protected areas, corridors, Indigenous lands, and other conservation lands. However, the manual processing of thousands of images generated by these cameras can be cumbersome and often leads to data collection challenges. To address this issue, Conservation International has partnered with Google and other partners to create Wildlife Insights, a platform that leverages the power of AI to quickly process and organize this data, making it readily available to data collectors and users. The AI model behind Wildlife Insights is described in detail, and the platform’s effectiveness is demonstrated through several case studies that highlight its potential for improving conservation outcomes for wildlife.

This live event includes a 30-minute networking event hosted on the AI for Good Neural Network. This is your opportunity to ask questions, interact with the panelists and participants and build connections with the AI for Good community.
