This interactive workshop in collaboration with the University of Geneva invites young participants to explore a simple but powerful idea: the quality of a prompt directly influences the quality, reliability and environmental impact of AI-generated responses. Through a hands-on activity combining physical cards, teamwork and a dedicated web application, participants will learn how to build structured prompts using the RTC-FTC-E framework: Role, Task, Context, Format, Tone, Constraints and Examples. Working in small teams, they will create prompts around key AI for Good themes such as climate, inclusion, creativity and ethics. Their prompts will then be scanned and analysed by the application, which provides real-time feedback on clarity, context, completeness, originality, impact and energy efficiency. Participants will improve their prompts, adapt them for image generation, and produce a final AI-generated visual creation linked to their chosen theme. The workshop ends with a collective discussion of the generated images and a concrete reflection on digital sustainability: the tokens used during the session are translated into an estimated water footprint, making visible the hidden environmental cost of AI use. Participants will leave with a practical understanding of how to interact more effectively with generative AI. They will discover that prompting is not only a technical skill, but also a cognitive, creative, critical and ecological competence. By learning to ask better questions, they learn to obtain better answers, reduce unnecessary iterations, and use AI in a more responsible way. This workshop is designed to be accessible, collaborative and engaging for young people from 9 to 25 and beyond. No prior technical knowledge is required—only curiosity, creativity and the desire to understand how we can guide AI towards more useful, meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

    Learning objectives:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

    • Build clear and structured prompts using the RTC-FTC-E framework.
    • Improve AI-generated responses and images through feedback and iteration.
    • Understand how better prompting can reduce unnecessary AI use and environmental impact.
    • Reflect on responsible, creative and sustainable uses of generative AI.
