Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a cognitive partner, a tool humans rely on not just to process information, but to think, decide, and form judgments. Yet as AI systems grow more capable and frictionless, a critical question emerges: what happens to the human brain when it consistently delegates its most complex functions to a machine? Drawing on consumer neuroscience, behavioral science, and cognitive psychology, this keynote presents compelling evidence that AI adoption, when designed without regard for human cognitive health, risks triggering a measurable shift in how people think. Through four interconnected mechanisms – cognitive outsourcing, automation bias, attention fragmentation, and the tension between the predictive brain and predictive AI – this talk demonstrates that the very features that make AI powerful also carry the potential to erode human agency, independent judgment, and critical thinking.
