This talk will discuss a couple of projects at Mila aiming to leverage machine learning in the fight against Covid-19. The first project involves the prediction of contagiousness based on information available from users regarding their symptoms, contacts and pre-existing conditions, which would yield substantial reductions in the reproduction number of the virus. The second project involves the discovery of antivirals for Covid-19, either as combinations of existing drugs or through the search in molecular space using active learning and reinforcement learning. Both projects lead to a discussion about the need to change our economic and social structures to maximize collective well-being.
