Bachir Boukherouaa

El Bachir Boukherouaa leads the Data Operations Division at the IMF’s Statistics Department, where he spearheads the Fund’s data modernization and AI agenda. He is a co-creator of StatGPT, the IMF’s AI-powered platform for querying official statistics, and leads flagship initiatives including EcDACS (API-based data collection across 191 member countries) and Talk2Manuals.
A long-standing advocate for responsible AI in economics and finance, he co-authored the IMF’s foundational publications”Powering the Digital Economy: Opportunities and Risks of AI in Finance” (2021) and”Generative AI in Finance: Risk Considerations” (2023), and most recently”StatGPT: AI for Official Statistics” (2026).
