Launch of the TRIED (Truly Innovative and Effective Detection) Benchmark on Thursday, July 10. This 90-minute event, co-organized by WITNESS and the Swiss Government, addresses the urgent challenge of AI-generated synthetic media and the limitations of current detection tools. The Benchmark introduces a new framework to evaluate AI detection tools that goes beyond technical accuracy and focuses on their usability in diverse real-world contexts. It is set around six key considerations: contextual adaptability, transparency, accessibility, fairness, durability, and integration into verification ecosystems. Drawing from frontline experiences and global consultations, the event aims to foster multi-stakeholder collaboration among governments, civil society, tech companies, standards bodies, and media actors. It will feature a report presentation and a panel discussion exploring policy interventions, governance mechanisms, and real-world use cases, ultimately advocating for responsible and inclusive AI detection solutions to uphold information integrity and democratic resilience.
