Gisella Lomax

Gisella Lomax

Gisella Lomax is the Senior Advisor on Information Integrity at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. She leads UNHCR’s global digital protection: information integrity capacity, addressing the harmful impacts of information risks on people forced to flee and for humanitarian action. Her portfolio focuses on risks including misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, as well as emerging AI-driven threats such as manipulated content and gendered deepfakes targeting women and girls in displacement contexts.

She joined the United Nations in 2011, following a career in journalism, at a time of rapid transformation in the global information environment, and has worked on issues spanning human rights, climate action, education, peace and security, and forced displacement.

Gisella works at the intersection of technology, communications, protection and policy, advancing operational responses and multistakeholder partnerships to strengthen information integrity in crisis settings and promote the responsible, rights-based use of AI.
