Yu Zhao

One of the founding advocates of Computational Medicine; Research Fellow at the Western Institute of Computing Technology; Visiting Professor at the Institute of Industrial Economics, Jinan University; Deputy Director of the Turing-Darwin Laboratory; Co-founder of Zhe Yuan Technology (Phil Rivers); Expert at the Science Popularization Think Tank, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST); Vice Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Division, China Biomedical Industry Chain Innovation and Transformation Alliance; Member of the Expert Committee, “Research and Industrial Transformation of Cell and Gene Therapy in Medical Institutions” Project; and Chair of the Computational Medicine Forum. He is dedicated to pioneering novel paradigms in drug research and development through emerging technology platforms. With extensive experience at the intersection of information technology and biotechnology (IT + BT), he has designed and led multiple national- and Beijing-level key research projects. Computational medicine, as advanced by him, develops quantitative scientific methods by applying mathematics, engineering, and computational science together with biomedical knowledge to intelligently elucidate disease mechanisms and construct digital simulations of biological processes. He has established two AI-driven tool platforms—the Novel Target and MOA Discovery Platform and the Virtual Clinical Trial Platform—applied across six domains: novel target identification, novel mechanism-of-action discovery, novel biomarker development, clinical trial protocol design, clinical trial outcome prediction, and indication expansion. These platforms have already yielded a series of clinically validated results in human subject studies.
