Tsai-ta Lai

Dr. Tsai-ta Lai holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is the Co-founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer of Metis TechBio (Stock Code: 7666.HK).

Recognized as a National Leading Talent, Dr. Lai has been honored on Fortune’s “40 Under 40 China Business Elites” list and Forbes China’s “New Innovators,” among other prestigious accolades.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Dr. Lai has demonstrated profound scientific expertise coupled with a strategic vision for industrialization. During his doctoral studies, he founded AquaFresco, a water purification technology startup where he successfully developed and commercialized innovative wastewater recycling technologies. While at the Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous Manufacturing, he focused on continuous crystallization processes and pioneered a model combining machine learning with first-principles physics to optimize manufacturing. This pioneering work in AI-driven pharmaceutical formulation was successfully applied to the continuous production of blockbuster drugs such as Cyclosporine.

Subsequently, he served as a consultant at McKinsey & Company and later played a pivotal role at XtalPi, where he led the planning and commercialization of integrated dry-wet lab platforms. In 2020, Dr. Lai co-founded METiS. Over six years, he has steered the company to become the “Global First AI Drug Delivery IPO” and the “First Hong Kong-listed AI Biologics Company,” establishing METiS as a benchmark enterprise in the AI-powered drug delivery sector.
