Sara Shamekh

Sara Shamekh began her academic journey at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in physics. She furthered her studies with an Earth system physics program at ICTP in Trieste, Italy, and completed her PhD at the Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique, Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, focusing on clouds and their organization. After her doctoral pursuits, she transitioned to a postdoctoral role at GentineLab, Columbia University. In this capacity, she harnesses machine learning techniques to refine the representation of subgrid scale processes in climate models, emphasizing turbulent fluxes, atmospheric boundary layer processes, and cloud organization. Sara is set to commence a faculty position at NYU in January 2024.
