Qiang Zhang

Qiang Zhang, professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, executive director of the Jinan Institute of Quantum Technology, fellow of the Optical Society of America(OSA), supported by The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar. He also served as the chair of ITU Focus Group on Quantum Information Technology for Network, head of the Chinese Delegation attending to IEC/ISO JTC 3, the general secretary of National Technical Committee 578 on Quantum Computing and Metrology of Standardization Administration of China. He has been engaged in experimental research on quantum communication and quantum precision measurement for decades. He achieved measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution, setting and continuously breaking world records for quantum key distribution transmission distance (achieved 1002 km in 2023), addressing real-world security and long-distance transmission challenges in quantum communication, laying the technical foundation for quantum key distribution networks; realized hundred-kilometer free-space time-frequency dissemination with a stability of E-19 at ten thousand seconds, validating the feasibility of high-precision optical frequency comparison between space and ground; achieved loophole-free Bell inequality tests, becoming the first in the world to realize device-independent quantum random number generation and device-independent quantum key distribution, referenced by the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics scientific background document.
