Olivia Kirtley

Dr Olivia Kirtley is an Assistant Research Professor and co-director of the Center for Contextual Psychiatry at KU Leuven (Belgium), where she leads a research programme investigating suicidal thoughts and behaviours in the daily lives of young people using ecological momentary assessment (EMA). Olivia is broadly interested in the role of technology in suicide prevention, including EMA, wearables, and machine learning. Her current research uses EMA to investigate dynamic processes involved in thoughts to behaviour transitions in adolescents who self-harm, with a focus on social processes, future thinking, and exposure to suicidal behaviour. Other recent work has focused on exploring the practical and clinical issues with using machine learning for suicide research and prevention. Olivia also leads several projects to increase transparency and reproducibility in clinical psychology and experience sampling research.
