Brian Mishara

Founder of the Centre de recherche et d’intervention sur le suicide et l’euthanasie (CRISE), renamed after the adoption of the Québec law on medical assistance in dying, Brian Mishara has been the Director of CRISE since 1996. He has been a professor in the Department of Psychology at Université du Québec à Montréal since 1979. An internationally renowned researcher in the field of suicidology, Brian Mishara has written several books, particularly on ageing, prescription drug use, suicide and euthanasia. He has worked extensively on the use of Digital Technologies (including AI) in the suicide prevention. He is one of the co-founders of the suicidology association Association québécoise de suicidologie (since renamed the Association québécoise de prévention du suicide), and was the President of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) and the President of the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP) from 2005 to 2009.
