Max Schmitz Foriest

Max Schmitz Foriest is an ELLIS PhD student at the Learning Algorithms and Systems Laboratory (LASA) at EPFL, Switzerland. His research focuses on transfer learning for robotics — investigating how knowledge learned by one robot can be reused by a different robot, for a different task, or in a different environment. He holds an M.Sc. in Engineering Cybernetics from the University of Stuttgart and an M.Sc. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to his PhD, he worked as a Software Engineer at Yamaha Marine USA, where he developed autonomous marine systems, including the first self-driving docking technology for recreational boats, with 3 pending USPTO patents.
