Junyoung Choi

Dr. Junyoung Choi holds both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Urban Planning from Hanyang University. He began his career at the Korea Local Information Research and Development Institute (KLID), where he worked until 2006. From 2006, he was involved in a wide range of national projects at the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), focusing on spatial policy support systems for housing and urban development under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

In 2018, he served as a staff secondee at the Safer Cities Programme of UN-Habitat, contributing to global urban safety and governance initiatives. He later joined the Seoul Institute of Technology, where he served as Director of the Center for Data Science. In 2024, he became Director-General of the Division of Future Spatial Research at the Seoul Institute.

He currently serves as the Director of the Center for External Collaborative Research at the Seoul Institute, where he leads global research partnerships and international cooperation. In addition, he is serving as the Secretary-General of MeTTA (Megacity Think Tank Alliance), an international network of leading urban research institutes in global megacities.

His recent research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in urban planning and spatial policy, exploring how data-driven approaches can support sustainable metropolitan development and governance innovation.
