Johanne Schmude

Dr. Johannes Schmude is a senior research scientist and manager at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson research center. His work currently focusses on AI foundation models for scientific data. In this context he leads the development of the Prithvi WxC foundation model for weather and climate. Prior to this he focused on geospatial big data infrastructure and analytics. A theoretical physicist by trade, Dr. Schmude holds a Master in Advanced Studies from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from Swansea University. Before joining IBM in 2017 he was a postdoc at the Kavli IPMU, University of Tokyo, the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science and the University of Oviedo.
