Hong-Wei Wang

Dr. Wang received his B.S. degree in Biological Sciences & Biotechnology from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in 1996 and earned a Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua University in 2001. Subsequently, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow, advancing to Research Scientist in 2006 at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He joined Yale University as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 2009 and returned to his alma mater as a Professor of Life Sciences in December, 2010. He served as dean of School of Life Sciences from 2016-2021.

Prof. Wang’s current research interests include methodology development for more efficient and high resolution cryo-EM, the mechanism and regulations of nucleic acid quality control and the coordination mechanisms of cytoskeleton and membrane systems. The cryo-EM facility of Tsinghua University he is responsible for building has been one of the world’s largest cryo-EM platforms at the international level, and has produced a number of scientific research achievements with important impact in the past dozen years. Dr. Wang received numerous awards, including Second Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (1st rank), XPLORER PRIZE of Tencent Foundation, Tan Jiazhen Life Sciences Innovation Award, Chinese Cryo-EM Outstanding Contribution Award, Beijing Outstanding Teacher Award, Beijing Teachers’ Role Model, and National Award of Natural Science by State Council of China (2nd rank).
