Ed Mitchard

Ed is a leading researcher in the use of satellite data and AI to map forest and peat carbon storage, deforestation and forest degradation. He has published over 80 peer reviewed papers on the topic and acted as an advisor to a number of governments of tropical forest countries, including Gabon and Indonesia. He founded Space Intelligence with his long-term colleague Dr Murray Collins in 2018 in order to improve the availability of high quality maps to companies, NGOs and governments globally.

Space Intelligence supports developers of Nature Based Solutions in their project development and monitoring, ensuring delivery of climate benefits. They provide information on land cover, analysing habitats and above ground carbon storage across the world, by applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to big data from satellites, leveraging decades of experience in using satellite data analytics to address environmental challenges.
