Christofer Dutz

Christofer Dutz

Chris is currently serving his third term as a Director of the Apache Software Foundation, where he helps steward one of the world’s most influential open-source communities. He was instrumental in bringing Apache PLC4X to the Foundation—a project for vendor-neutral access to industrial control systems—after many years as initial PMC Chair he has since stepped back from this role to make room for others to step forward, while still remaining one of the most active contributors of the project.

For Chris, open source and open standards are not just a preference but the only sustainable way forward—the foundation for transparency, interoperability, and shared progress that no single vendor or nation can lock away.

Technologically, his focus is on renewing industrial automation by bridging the gap between proprietary industrial equipment and open software solutions. As Managing Director of ToddySoft GmbH, based near Darmstadt, Germany, he builds the connectivity solutions based on open source that let factories, energy systems, and automation hardware speak a common, open language—work that spans Rust, Java, Go, Python and TypeScript. His aim throughout is a practical one: using open technology to make the world a little better.
