Can techniques from AI be used to augment experts in some of the most intellectually demanding areas of research mathematics? What does this say about our relationship with AI moving forward? In this talk, we discuss the results of our recent Nature paper, where we show how top mathematicians can work together with techniques from AI and machine learning to make significant new discoveries in different areas of pure mathematics. We show how surprising results can be achieved by combining the best of human expertise and intuition with guidance from AI techniques.
