Refusing AI Contact: Autism, Algorithms and the Dangers of ‘Technopsyence’

Machine Learning is being billed as the panacea to a whole host of social problems – including issues with access, equity and efficiency in psychiatric diagnosis. In this talk, focusing on AI for Autism Diagnostics (AIAD), I explore the vast range of harms and unexpected consequences that stem from the framing of diagnosis in AI spaces, and the ways that AI ethics may (or may not) be sufficient to surface and address them.
