  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is gradually becoming more intermixed with neurotechnology, which is any technology that collects, interprets, infers, learns from, or modifies neurodata or the nervous system itself. These combinations bring new potential for positive impacts on our lives but also additional concerns. Therefore, we need to extend our thinking to identify and address emerging, compounded, and expanded ethics issues in the many possible uses of this technology and associated data.  To this end, we should exploit all the knowledge gathered, the capabilities developed, and the lessons learnt in applied AI ethics to accelerate the path towards responsible innovation at the intersection of AI and neurotech. In this talk, we will review and compare AI and neurotech ethics issues, discussing what neurotech brings to the discussion and how AI ethics initiatives can contribute.

This talk is also a call-to-action for AI ethics thought leaders and practitioners to support a larger multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder approach that includes expertise in AI+neurotech research, creation, applications, and deployed mitigations. Given that neurotechnologies are still emerging, there is an opportunity to learn from the past, think proactively and critically about potential issues and negative impacts, and develop preventive strategies to address them.

This live event includes a 30-minute networking event hosted on the AI for Good Neural Network. This is your opportunity to ask questions, interact with the panelists and participants and build connections with the AI for Good community.
