With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in the geospatial sector, many environmental analysts and practitioners now face the challenge of keeping pace with emerging trends. A particularly notable development is the increasing focus on Geospatial Foundation Models (GFMs), which are large AI models pre-trained on diverse geospatial data and adaptable to various tasks across downstream geospatial applications. These innovations have introduced a significant technological upskill requirement for geospatial professionals, especially those less familiar with setting up deep learning workflows.

TerraTorch is an open-source library designed to support Earth observation analysts in leveraging GFMs for their specific applications. It provides a modular and flexible framework for implementing deep learning-based solutions, allowing analysts to tailor workflows to their individual needs and objectives.
The webinar will begin with an introduction to the TerraTorch library, covering the motivations behind its development, its architectural design, and practical usage scenarios. The second part of the webinar will feature hands-on demonstrations, showcasing real-world case scenarios using TerraTorch. Speakers will guide participants through setting up a new experiment, exploring key functionalities, and highlighting the potential applications of the library. This presentation is intended for Earth observation analysts and decision makers working with geospatial and remote sensing data, who are interested in integrating advanced AI models into their projects or research.

    Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

    • Gain a clear understanding of what the TerraTorch library offers to Earth observation analysts and how its modular design supports custom workflows.
    • Learn about the architecture of TerraTorch and the principles behind its flexible framework.
    • By the end of this session, participants will be able to set up a new experiment using TerraTorch.

    Recommended Mastery Level / Prerequisites:

    • Good familiarity with remote sensing data and Earth observation applications.
    • Basic understanding of AI methods applied to geospatial data, including general knowledge of geospatial foundation models.
    • Basic Python skills will be helpful for engaging more deeply with the webinar content.
