This webinar seeks to initiate a high-level dialogue between standardization organizations (SDOs) such as ISO, ITU, OSI and DPGA, alongside AI and open source experts, to explore the potential for open source AI in enhancing the compliance, monitoring, and impact assessment of Digital Public Goods (DPGs). As DPGs become essential to achieving global objectives like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the need for standardized approaches in assessing their effectiveness, accessibility, and alignment with international norms is growing. However, current tools for monitoring compliance with such standards are limited in scope and application, especially in under-resourced countries.

The session will begin by outlining the existing contributions of ISO, ITU, OSI and DPGA in shaping standards for digital public services across sectors such as healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure. It will then delve into the transformative potential of AI and open source solutions to enhance these standardization efforts. Open source AI could help countries, particularly in the Global South, monitor and assess their DPGs’ compliance with international standards in real time, allowing for more efficient and scalable implementations.

A panel discussion will address how AI can facilitate data-driven decision-making for DPGs, enabling dynamic reporting and providing actionable insights to policymakers. The dialogue will also cover potential challenges, such as data privacy, technical readiness, and the responsible dimensions of AI in public service.

Ultimately, the webinar aims to assess whether a collaborative initiative between SDOs, focused on open source AI, is both timely and pertinent. By identifying areas for collaboration, the event will pave the way for further joint research or pilot projects to advance DPG standardization globally, particularly in regions where the need is most pressing
