Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the digital environments in which young people grow up. Today’s generation forms identities, relationships, and communities in online spaces increasingly shaped by AI systems and synthetic media. As generative AI enables the creation and manipulation of images, voices, and digital identities, questions of consent, representation, and safety become more urgent. This session introduces the concept of digital bodily autonomy – the idea that the right to control one’s body must extend to digital representations and AI-generated content. For young people navigating AI-mediated platforms, understanding how technology shapes identity, information, and relationships is becoming an essential life skill. The session also connects this discussion to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms children’s rights to privacy, participation, education, and access to information.
