Artificial Intelligence has enormous potential to address societal and economic challenges, yet many promising innovations struggle to achieve sustainable impact. While much attention is given to AI technologies themselves, less focus is placed on the innovation ecosystems that enable AI to develop, deploy, and scale responsibly. This session brings together leaders working across policy, innovation, and ecosystem development to explore the conditions needed for AI innovation to thrive. The discussion will examine the role of enabling policy environments, access to data, innovation support mechanisms, and cross-sector collaboration in translating AI potential into real-world solutions. Drawing on experiences from initiatives such as AI Made in Africa, FAIR Forward – Artificial Intelligence for All, and the Smart Africa AI Council, speakers will share practical insights on strengthening AI innovation ecosystems and fostering inclusive and sustainable AI development. Participants will gain perspectives on how governments, industry, research institutions, and development partners can work together to build the foundations that responsible AI innovation requires.
