AI has become intertwined with most human activity online. But the challenges of detecting what is and is not AI-generated, what is true, and what is being amplified, in the context of AI-generated content at-scale, are still to be met. With the rapid adoption of AI chatbots, our interactions with AI and the standards underpinning their responses are becoming less visible, which will only accelerate as agentic AI becomes embedded in our digital experience.

The Oversight Board has spent five years addressing the most difficult social media content moderation issues on Meta’s platforms, examples which we use/can be used to frame key AI governance questions that are arising today.

Join the Board in this session as we discuss the lessons learned from social media content moderation, how international human rights principles should be applied for these new technologies, and how AI can help surface when and how human moderation is most required.
