    The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will release a joint technical briefing, Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine, during this session. 

    This briefing aims to:

    • Provide a comprehensive overview of how artificial intelligence (AI) is currently being used in traditional medicine (TM) to support evidence-informed decision-making
    • Highlight examples of best practices
    • Examine key topics including governance, ethics, and intellectual property considerations

    The brief will also explore key challenges in applying AI to TM, including:

    • Balancing local adaptation with global standards
    • Ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance
    • Addressing disparities in data and digital access
    Additionally, the brief offers recommendations and actionable guidance on:
    • Implementing participatory design and robust data governance
    • Ensuring active involvement of TM practitioners and communities
    • Promoting safe, equitable, and effective use of AI in TM
