Mohammed bin Yahya Al-Sayel

He is the current President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), the principal national mapping and geospatial agency in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He previously worked at the Ministry of Defense where he reached the rank of Major General. He is one of the three current Co-Chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). He is a also member of several local and international committees, advisory and professional associations in surveying and geospatial information, including as a founding member and Chairman of the UN-GGIM regional committee for Arab States, Member of the International Advisory Committee of the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China, as well as the Regional Representative for Arab States to the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). He holds a Ph.D. in Surveying Engineering and Geospatial Information from Germany, a Master’s degree in Surveying Engineering and Geospatial Information from Canada, a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the United States, and a Higher Diploma in Surveying from the British School of Survey, affiliated with the British Royal Engineers.
