Gen Z is entering the workforce with a distinctly purpose-driven outlook. According to the World Economic Forum’s Youth Pulse report, 61% of young people rank purpose as their top career priority, ahead of job security, compensation, and workplace benefits. For this generation, work is more than an economic exchange. It is also a source of identity, agency, and social impact. At the same time, the adoption of AI across organizations is accelerating, shaped largely by narratives of efficiency, productivity, and cost optimization. Although these gains are real and often necessary, an efficiency-first framing risks overlooking essential workforce concerns, particularly those linked to meaning, dignity, equity, and pathways into early-career employment. This session is co-designed by ITU and the Global Shapers Community (hosted by the World Economic Forum).
