A new award has just been launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency for digital technologies, in partnership with Tech To The Rescue, a global not-for-profit connecting tech companies with social impact organizations. The AI for Good Impact Awards is a global initiative celebrating (artificial intelligence) AI-powered solutions that drive meaningful change in social impact, environmental sustainability, and ethical innovation.
Applications are now open here until 15 May, and the winners will be announced at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva on 9 July 2025.
Recognizing leaders in AI for social good and pro bono collaboration
By participating in the AI for Good Impact Awards, innovators can showcase their work on a global stage, connect with decision-makers, and contribute to shaping the future of AI for social good. The winners will be invited to the AI for Good Global Summit, the leading United Nations event on AI happening from 8-11 July, 2025.
For the first time, the awards will feature a Pro Bono Collaboration Award, recognizing AI-powered partnerships where technology companies provide pro bono expertise to nonprofit organizations tackling global challenges. This unique recognition highlights the role of volunteer-driven AI solutions in areas such as disaster response, climate action, and healthcare accessibility.
“AI has the power to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges, but too often, the technology remains out of reach for those who need it the most and have the best understanding of the global problems”, said Jacek Siadkowski, CEO of Tech To The Rescue. “With the AI for Good Impact Awards, we want to celebrate those who are using AI not only for profit, but for progress—whether it’s improving healthcare, protecting the planet, or driving ethical innovation.”
He added: “This is also the first time that pro bono AI collaborations are being recognized on a global stage, highlighting the incredible impact that happens when tech companies step up to work hand in hand with changemakers. We invite everyone—innovators, nonprofits, and companies—to join us in showcasing how AI can truly be a force for good.”
Celebrating AI solutions tackling global challenges
The awards are open to individuals, companies, software agencies, nonprofits, academic institutions, and government bodies developing AI solutions to solve global challenges.
“Technological innovation has the power to change the world, and this award recognizes and supports impactful solutions using trusted technologies for good. The AI for Good Impact Awards celebrate those using trustworthy AI to drive real, positive change. I encourage you to nominate the visionaries and pioneers who are shaping a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable future for all.” said Seizo Onoe, ITU Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau.
With a focus on trusted AI for impact, the Award categories include:
- AI for People – AI applications in healthcare, education, and community well-being.
- AI for Planet – AI-driven solutions for environmental sustainability and climate action.
- AI for Prosperity – AI’s role in economic development, ethical innovation, and inclusive growth.
