Xi Cao

Xi Cao currently serves as the Director of AI Standardization at the Artificial Intelligence Center, China Mobile Research Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

With 15 years of experience in standardization, his expertise spans multiple technical domains including wireless communications, autonomous networks, and artificial intelligence. He has been actively involved in various standards development organizations and industry groups, including ITU-T, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC42, IEEE SA/AISC, 3GPP, CCSA, SAC/TC28/SC42, and AIIA. He has led 16 standardization projects, submitted over 200 standard proposals, and filed 46 patents.

From 2021 to 2024, Xi Cao served as Vice Chair of the ITU-T FG-AN (Focus Group on Autonomous Networks). He acted as the first editor for ITU-T Recommendation Y.3173 and was one of the main editors for ITU-T Recommendation Y.3061.

From 2020 to 2024, he served as the lead rapporteur for four study items/work items at 3GPP TSG SA, leading the development of standards such as 3GPP TS 28.100 and TR 28.810.
